Space Pests(Temporary Title)
This game started off as a school project where I tried to make a game along the lines of Frantic Frigates, a game by Berzerk Studio.
After that it evolved into a project where I let loose all my ideas for an awesome ARPG game.
A few inspirations are games like: Path of Exile, Grim Dawn and The Binding of Isaac

Duration:
2 years on and off, about 3-4 months full time work
Things I learned:
- Persistence: There were some parts of this game that were relatively new for me to develop. I wanted everything to be built upon with ease in the future and to make this happen some parts of the development process only showed the fruit of labor after weeks of working on it.
- Sometimes it’s better to completely rewrite everything if it might save time in the future
- Writing code I can keep building on in he future/building a stable code architecture
- To be very careful with content creep, this being a game I dream up a lot of ideas for.
Things I am proud of:
- The game feel in this game is really nice and even non-gamers I’ve let it play didn’t want to stop playing.
- This is the first game where I made a good code architecture on which I can keep building.
- This is a dream project that survived for a very long time after it’s inception, I’ve even completely rewrote everything from scratch this is how it looked before the rework:

The current main menu of the game

Particle effects I made with the Epic toon FX pack as base.
I focused a lot on game feel in this game. In this example you can clearly see the sense of permanence I'm giving by leaving the remains of dead aliens and meteors.
A picture clearly showing the user interface. The upper part from left to right: Currency, boss bar and lives. The lower part show your weapon and ship experience.
A death screen showing your progress this run. The way the time is displayed still needs to be fixed though :p

The hangar: this is is where you upgrade your weapons and your shop. The UI is still very much a work in progress.
The shop where you buy the upgrades you spend your experience on. Even more than the hangar the UI is still subject to a lot of change.
